Linux Kodachi is a Debian-based distribution which can be run from a DVD or USB thumb drive. The distribution filters all network traffic through a VPN and the Tor network, obscuring the user's network location. The ExTiX project has announced the release of a new version of the Ubuntu-based desktop distribution. The new version, ExTiX 17.7, ships with the Budgie desktop environment and features Refracta Tools for remastering the operating system. "I've made a new extra version of ExTiX with the Budgie Desktop. Budgie is focused on simplicity and elegance. Designed with the modern user in mind. Only a minimum of packages are installed in ExTiX Budgie. You can of course install all the packages you want, even while running ExTiX Budgie live. i.e. from a DVD or USB stick. All four ExTiX systems are based on Ubuntu and Debian. While running ExTiX Budgie 17.7 live or from hard drive you can use Refracta Tools (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system." ExTiX is a desktop Linux distribution based on Ubuntu which features alternative desktop environments. The project's latest release, ExTiX 17.2 features the lightweight LXQt 0.10.0 desktop environment and provides version 4.10 of the Linux kernel. "News about ExTiX 17.2 build 170320 with the LXQt desktop environment: 1. ExTiX LXQt is based on Ubuntu 16.10 'Yakkety Yak'. LXQt 0.10.0 is used as the desktop environment. All packages have been updated to the latest version by 2017-03-20, Linux kernel 4.10 is used. (kernel.org's kernel 4.10.3). 2. Google Chrome is used as the web browser, which makes it possible to watch Netflix movies. It is not possible in Firefox (on Linux). 3. I have also installed BlueGriffon 2.3.1 web editor. BlueGriffon is a new WYSIWYG content editor for the world wide web. Powered by Gecko, the rendering engine of Firefox, it's a modern and robust solution to edit web pages in conformance to the latest web standards. 4. Other included important/useful packages are: LibreOffice, Thunderbird, GParted, Brasero, SMPlayer, GCC and other compilation tools so that you can install packages from source. Arne Exton has announced the release of a new version of the Debian- and Ubuntu-based ExTiX distribution. The new release, version 17.0, ships with the KDE desktop environment and is available in a single, 64-bit x86 build. ExTiX 17.0 KDE DVD 64-bit is based on Debian 8.6 'Jessie'/Debian 9 'Stretch' and Ubuntu 16.10. The original system includes the desktop environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed KDE Frameworks 5.26.0 with KDE 4.16. KDE Frameworks are 60 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well tested libraries with friendly licensing terms. The system language is English. My special kernel, 4.9.0-11-exton, corresponding to kernel.org's kernel 4.9 - latest as of 161221. ExTiX is a desktop oriented distribution which is based on Debian and Ubuntu. The latest version of the distribution, ExTiX 16.5, features the LXQt 0.10.0 desktop environment and version 4.8 of the Linux kernel. "ExTiX 16.5 LXQt DVD 64-bit is based on Debian 8.6 'Jessie', Debian 9 'Stretch' and the upcoming Ubuntu 16.10 'Yakkety Yak'. The original system includes the desktop environment Unity. After removing Unity I have installed LXQt 0.10.0. LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming version of LXDE. Both editions are based on the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 release and feature version 4.2 of the Linux kernel. This release is for the 64-bit x86 architecture exclusively. Arne Exton has announced the launch of ExTiX 15.2, currently available in two editions, KDE and LXQt. The two editions are based on packages from the recently frozen Ubuntu 15.04 repositories and Debian "Jessie". "ExTiX Linux Live DVDs (64-bit) are based on Debian Jessie/Ubuntu 15.04. The original system includes the desktop environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed LXQt 0.9.0 (in ExTiX 15.2, build 150417) and KDE 4.14.6 together with KDE Frameworks 5.9.0 in an extra version also of 150417.
